If you follow our blog, you know l- arginine is a non-essential amino acid that helps with various functions in our bodies including healing wounds, helping our kidneys flush out waste products from our body, sustaining the functions of our hormones and immune system, and helping our arteries relax and circulate blood.

As an amino acid, arginine is found naturally in many foods in addition to being found in various supplements. Some foods that are high in arginine include seafood, meat, eggs, nuts, vegetables, fruits and grains.

For those of you interested in increasing your arginine intake through your diet, here are three easy meals to try out, including breakfast, lunch and dinner options!

Breakfast: Tropical Oatmeal

This is a super simple and delicious recipe for breakfast. All you need to do is cook up some oats (steel cut oats are a healthy choice), and throw in some fresh fruit like strawberries, kiwi and grapes. Feel free to switch out the fruit, but these are especially high in arginine.

Lunch: Spinach, Avocado and Pumpkin Seed Salad

For lunch, whip up this easy, delectable salad that’ll keep you satisfied! Here’s a recipe if you like to follow them, or you can just wing it. Toss baby spinach, pumpkin seeds and half of an avocado with some olive oil and squeezed lime.  Easy and refreshing, you’ll get plenty of arginine in with this lunch option. You can also add additional protein like chicken or sliced turkey.

Dinner: Baked/Grilled Salmon, Quinoa and Spinach

For those of you who are into seafood, salmon is a great source for arginine, and it’s also simple to cook in the oven or on the grill. For the baked salmon, preheat your oven to 350°, season the fish with some salt and pepper (or lemon and oil), and place on a non-stick pan (or in tin foil) and cook until the fish is cooked-through (about 12-15 minutes). For a well-balanced, arginine rich meal, sauté some fresh spinach and prepare some quinoa. Here are some great quinoa recipes.
