In 2008, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington did a study on arginine and its effect on body fat mass in endurance-trained athletes. Through four weeks, the study found it considerably reduced the body fat proportion and fat accumulation. That study was published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise.
Then in 2009, Texas A&M conducted its own study on rats. What they did was intentionally gave rats a fattening diet to make them obese. On the control rats, 98 percent of them gained weight, but with the rats who were also given an arginine supplement, only 35 percent experience weight gain despite consuming the same amount of calories as the control rats. What it found was the arginine helped the muscles use the calories more efficiently, using them instead of storing them as fat.
So add it the long list of Arginine Benefits.
